Jack Wilshere is reportedly poised to leave Arsenal in the summer after the latest round of talks over a new contract broke down.

England midfielder Wilshere spent the majority of last season at Bournemouth on loan but has once again emerged as an important player for Arsene Wenger during the current campaign.

He has played 27 games in all competitions and was one of the few players able to come away from Sunday’s 3-0 Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City with any credit.

Wenger said earlier in the week that talks over a new deal for Wilshere were ‘progressing’ but The Sun say this is not the case.

It is claimed Wilshere’s representatives and Arsenal are currently ‘miles away’ in talks over an extension, with the player unwilling to put pen to paper on the deal on offer.

Mesut Ozil received a £200,000-a-week pay rise when he committed his future to the Gunners last month, while new signings Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan both signed lucrative deals.

Wilshere was told to go away last season and prove he could maintain his fitness throughout a campaign, but his efforts have not yet produced a contract offer worth signing.

The 26-year-old has been at Arsenal for almost two decades and wants to sign a new deal but is currently unhappy with the fees involved.

Speaking about Wilshere’s future at the club this week, Wenger said: ‘I want Jack to sign very quickly and I am happy to find the pen for him.

‘Talks are progressing but the decision belongs to him and we have to respect that. Our desire has been clearly expressed and numbered and, after that, the player has to find satisfaction as well.’
