Chelsea’s club-record signing has not scored since Boxing Day although he has been struggling with a back injury since the turn of the year.
Conte opted to play Eden Hazard as a false nine in the 1-1 draw with Barcelona at Stamford Bridge, but an encouraging performance from Olivier Giroud against Crystal Palace on Saturday has resulted in calls for the Italian to start the French striker at Camp Nou.
Conte has revealed that Morata has shown ‘great focus’ ahead of the second leg against the La Liga leaders and has hinted that the Spaniard could start in attack.
‘I can repeat always the same concept, don’t forget for Morata this is the first full season in his career because in the past with Real Madrid and Juventus he was on the bench was the first sub if the striker was injured, for this reason we must have great patience,’ said Conte.
‘We are talking about an important striker, he is a really important prospect for Chelsea, for the present and the future.
‘He is in contention for tomorrow’s game, I can tell you this, I saw great will and great focus, great will to fight for a place, I can tell you this.’
