Arsenal head of recruitment Sven Mislintat planning for Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey exits

Arsenal head of recruitment Sven Mislintat is focusing on central midfield and central defence as he looks to strengthen the squad this summer.

The Gunners have endured a difficult campaign and are expected to be busy in the transfer market as they seek to rectify the situation.

There are also question marks over the futures of numerous current players, with midfield pair Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey out of contract this summer and next respectively. Their fellow midfielder Santi Cazorla continues to struggle with injury and may also need to be replaced.

The Telegraph report that Mislintat has made midfield and defence his priorities accordingly.

Schalke midfielder Max Meyer is believed to be on the Gunners radar. The 22-year-old Germany international is out of contract this summer and his club have said they expect him to leave.

At the moment we can and must expect that Max leaves the club in the summer. Everything suggests that, said Schalkes sporting director Christian Heidel.

With the club having broken their record transfer in the last two windows to first recruit Alexandre Lacazette and then Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, another striker is not high on the agenda for Mislintats recruitment team.
