Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang hopes to play alongside fellow striker Alexandre Lacazette at Arsenal and says they can complement each other on the pitch.

Gabon forward Aubameyang has made an impressive start to his Arsenal career, scoring six goals in his first seven games since signing from Borussia Dortmund in January.

His arrival at the Emirates appeared to be bad news for Frenchman Lacazette, however, who has not made the same impact in north London following his summer move from Lyon.

Arsene Wenger has been wary of playing Aubameyang and Lacazette together but the former insists he wants that to change over the coming weeks.

I hope we will have the opportunity to play together – its something I said when I first arrived that I hoped to play with him, Aubameyang told Sky Sports.

We have different styles, but I think theyre styles that complement each other – hes a very good player and a very kind person.

We were once rivals in our days in France, but were now friends and I hope we can play well together and score lots of goals.

Aubameyang has joined Arsenal at a difficult time with the club failing to qualify for the Champions League for the first time during Wengers 22-year reign last season.

The Gunners will once again miss out on the top four this term, with their hopes of returning to the Champions League resting on winning the Europa League.

Wengers position in the Emirates hot-seat has been the subject of intense scrutiny but Aubameyang believes some of the criticism has been unfair.

Asked whether Wenger deserves the criticism he receives, the in-form striker added: Its a difficult question. Sometimes I think its a bit unfair.

Were playing better in these last games and I hope the people can see this.

Lacazette, meanwhile, has been urged to prove his worth to Wenger in the Europe League, with Aubameyang cup-tied in the competition.

Frank Lampard, the former Chelsea and England midfielder, told the Evening Standard: Now is the time Lacazette has to cut out everything going on outside.

He is a bit hurt that the club have gone out and spent money in January on Aubameyang but its still all there for him.

He knows there is a great chance to start every game in the Europa League.
