Mesut Ozil reacts to Arsene Wengers decision to stand down as Arsenal manager


Mesut Ozil insists he is proud to have played under Arsene Wenger following the long-serving Frenchmans decision to stand aside Arsenal manager.
Wenger confirmed on Friday that he would bring down the curtain on his incredible 22-year tenure at the end of the current campaign.
Ozil recently committed his long-term future to the club by signing a new contract in February and cited Wengers presence as his decision to sign for Arsenal in a then club-record £42.5million transfer from Real Madrid back in 2013.

We are proud to have had the privilege to work with him and under his guidance.
Ozil was joined by his German compatriot and club captain Per Mertesaker, who also paid a glowing tribute to the influnce Wenger has had on his own career.
Mertesacker said: Hes been the major figure for this club for over 20 years.

He also gave me a future role here at the club, so Im very grateful and humbled for the opportunity he gave to me. It is a sad day for me but were also moving forward for the future.
