Arsenal in 'advanced' negotiations with Barcelona legend about replacing Arsene Wenger

Luis Enrique is in advanced negotiations with Arsenal to take over as manager, according to the Daily Mail.

The Spaniard is currently on a sabatical after leaving his role as Barcleonas manager last year, so he can take over the reigns at the Emirates as soon as Wenger departs.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenals head of football relations Raul Sanllehi approached Enrique about possibly taking the role.

Sanllehi joined the Gunners in February after 14-year spell at Barcelona and hes said to have a close bond with Enrique after their time together at the Nou Camp.

The Arsenal heirachy have also witnessed the success Pep Guardiola has brought to City with his Barcelona influence, and they are keen to replicate their own situation in London, which Enrique can supply.

The 47-year-old manager is acustomed to winning trophies having won La Liga twice and the Champions League while in charge of the Catalan giants.

Wenger did win the Premier League three times over a 22-year period, and Enrique will likely to have to deliver league titles to be considered a success at the Emirates.

For now, Wenger remains in charge and his next task is preparing the Gunners for their game against West Ham on April 22 before facing Atletico Madrid in the Europa League.
