Tories outdo Labour in polls for more than a month

There is more evidence to suggest Jeremy Corbyn's stance on Salisbury, Syria and Russia has taken a toll, with a new poll suggesting the Tories have now rated higher than Labour for more than a month.

The PA poll suggests that for the week ending 22 April the Conservatives were polling at 43 per cent, versus Labour at 38 per cent.

That's despite the government being slammed for scandals such as the Windrush immigration debacle, in which thousands of people have lost their jobs, lost access to services and even been threatened with deportation or detention.

It's the second recent poll that points to Theresa May's success with her tough line against Russia over the Novichock nerve agent attack in Salisbury and the chemical attack in Douma, Syria, which is thought to have been carried out by the Assad regime.

Earlier this month, a YouGov poll found that May was seen more favourably than Corbyn for the first time since the 2017 General Election.
