Barcelona Open 2018: World No1 Nadal on course for another big payday
World No1 Rafael Nadal has won the Barcelona Open a record 10 times before, yet another triumph at this year's tournament will be the Spaniard's most lucrative yet.
The Spaniard has been so successful at the clay court ATP World Tour event over the years, where he has lost just three times in 60 appearances, that its centre court has been renamed Pista Rafa Nadal.
Since winning his first of 10 titles in 2005, reigning champion Nadal has earned $3.5m (£2.5m) in prize money from Barcelona.
Should he beat world No10 David Goffin in Saturday's semi-final and either Stefanos Tsitsipas or fellow Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta in the final, he will push his earnings from the tournament beyond the $4m mark.

This year's winner will receive €501,700 (£442,264/$609,440) in prize money – a new record for the tournament.
Defeated semi-finalists will earn €123,780 while the runner-up can take solace in a €245,940 pay cheque.
This year's winner's prize represents a near 300 per cent increase on the €125,000 Nadal was paid for his first triumph in 2005.
