Manchester United believe Romelu Lukaku will be fit to face Chelsea in the FA Cup final in three weeks time after an initial diagnosis gave the club reason to be optimistic.

The Belgian limped out of Uniteds 2-1 win against Arsenal on Sunday after taking a knock to his ankle in the 50th minute.

United have three more matches in the Premier League this season and want to finish second behind Manchester City but its Mays showpiece final at Wembley that will be at the forefront of Jose Mourinhos mind.

Lukaku was sent for a scan today and the initial results suggest that the striker should return before the final against Chelsea, report the Guardian.

United await the full results but Lukaku is said to be a quick healer and the club believe he will be fit.

It is a huge boost for United to have Lukaku back with the Belgium international scoring 27 goals in all competitions this season.

Marcus Rashford replaced Lukaku against the Gunners and he could deputise for the Belgian against Brighton on Friday night.

United travel to the south coast needing four points from their final three matches to guarantee second place.
