Konstantinos Mavropanos has travelled with Arsenals squad for the second leg of their Europa League semi-final against Atletico Madrid on Thursday.

The 20-year-old Greek defender was handed a surprise debut on Sunday for Arsenals clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford.

And Mavropanos impressed up against Romelu Lukaku, although Arsenal slipped to a late 2-1 defeat as Marouane Fellaini scored Uniteds winner in injury time.

Mavropanos trained with the first team on Wednesday morning and was part of the squad which flew from Luton to Madrid that afternoon.

Both Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi were rested for Arsenals defeat to United, which suggests Arsene Wenger is planning to use that pairing in central defence against Atletico.

Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Nacho Monreal and Alexandre Lacazette also missed the trip to Manchester but all trained on Wednesday ahead of their match against Atletico.

Arsenal threw away a one-goal lead against Diego Simeones side to draw 1-1 in their first leg at the Emirates Stadium last week.

The Atletico Madrid boss was sent to the stands after Sime Vrsaljkos early red card and will be banned from the touchline for Thursdays return leg.
