HK Tips: Smart Baby fancied to land the spoils for red-hot jockey Purton

HAPPY Valley again provides a highly-competitive eight-race card where finding winners could be as difficult as finding a space on Brighton beach over the bank holiday weekend.

One horse that catches the eye, and could be better than their present handicap mark, is consistent old campaigner KIRAM who has at last drawn an inside number (3) in the 1.45pm over the extended mile.

The David Ferraris-trained seven-year-old has twice been dealt a blow in the last month, having been allocated the outside number (12) in races over a mile.

The fact he finished close-up in both contests suggests he is near his peak and he now has the added bonus of racing off a 3lb lower mark from his last course and distance win.

Earlier in the afternoon, the successful trainer and jockey combination of Caspar Fownes and Zac Purton team up with the steadily improving SMART BABY who tries the trip of 1m1f for the first time at 1.15pm.

The son of Sharmardal has yet to make the frame in a dozen attempts in Hong Kong but has been hitting the line strongly in races over the extended mile.

A recent encouraging trial and the application of a visor for the first time indicate he is now ready to do himself justice.

Moreira and Purton go head-to-head on market leaders Har Har Heart and The Judge in a fascinating race at 3.15pm.

Keep an eye on PATRIOT HERO who will find this company much easier than when taking on rivals in the HK Derby and will appreciate softer ground conditions.
