Tube chaos as person dies after being hit by a train at Gloucester Road
Four London tube lines were experiencing delays this morning, after a person died when hit by a train at Gloucester Road station.
Emergency services were called to the west London station just before 8am, and the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Circle and District lines were reopened shortly after 10am, after the whole of the Circle line was suspended along with the eastbound section of the District line between Earl's Court and Embankment.
"We were called at 7.52am today to Gloucester Road Underground station following reports that a person had been struck by a train," said a spokesman for the British Transport Police.
"Officers attended alongside paramedics from the London Ambulance Services, sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are working to identify the person and inform their family.
"This incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
Other tube lines were also suffering from problems. There were severe delays on the Piccadilly line between Cockfosters and Arnos Grove, and minor delays between Arnos Grove and Acton Town due to an earlier signalling problem.
Tickets were being accepted on local buses.
Meanwhile there was no service between Piccadilly Circus and Elephant & Castle southbound on the Bakerloo line, and minor delays from Queen's Park to Piccadilly Circus and Elephant & Castle northbound due to a fire alert.
