Cristiano Ronaldo told his Real Madrid team-mates he was going to leave the club weeks before making his surprise announcement on Champions League final night, reports say.

Ronaldo has been linked with a host of clubs in the last two weeks, with a return to Manchester United mooted as a possibility.

Despite the transfer speculation, many believe Ronaldos public admission is an attempt to extract a better contract from Real.

Ronaldo earns less than Neymar and rival Lionel Messi and wants his pay packet to be brought on par with the attacking pair.
