Arsenals first summer signing Stephan Lichsteiner has drawn comparisons with the Gunners current position and that of Juventus when he joined them seven years ago.

The Swiss defender signed a short-term deal with the Gunners on Tuesday after his contract expired with the Serie A champions at the end of last season.

The 34-year-old was brought in to provide cover and competition for Hector Bellerin at right-back and will add some much-needed experience to the squad Emery inherited from Arsene Wenger.

When asked about his experience of winning seven consecutive Serie A title with Juventus, the Switzerland international instead discussed how the Old Lady were in a similarly precocious position outside the Champions League when he signed for them.

He told Arsenals official website: “Experience of seven straight Scudetti? I hope I can bring a lot of that mentality. Its a little bit of the same project that I did seven years ago with Juventus.

“Juventus also, for two times, didnt qualify for the Champions League. I hope I can bring a lot of experience, a lot of mentality and together, with my team, come back to the highest level of the Champions League.

“At the end its not too important to speak too much. The important thing is what you do on the pitch, that you are an example for the young players, for the old players, that everybody knows that this guy will help us.

“Like me also, I need to know that everybody helps me. This is the team spirit that we need to have, to have the confidence to give each other to help us.”

Emery is likely to follow the signing of Lichsteiner with a deal for Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis in the coming days.

While speculation continues to link the likes of Sevilla midfielder Steven NZonzi and Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen to the club.
