Rory McIlroys incredible Ryder Cup outburst backfires – but Europe remain on top
Rory McIlroy endured mixed success on the day Europe took a 10-6 lead over America in the 2018 Ryder Cup.
A European whitewash in the foresomes on Friday afternoon saw Thomas Bjorns team lead 5-3 overnight despite Americas dominant morning session.
Europe maintained their momentum on Saturday, winning three of the four matches in the morning to open up a four-point lead.
One of those victories came courtesy of the partnership of McIlroy and Sergio Garcia, with the European pair downing Tony Finau and Brooks Koepka 2&1.

McIlroy was sent out in the afternoon alongside Ian Poulter but was unable to secure his third point of the tournament as Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas won 4&3.

The Team Europe duo were two up after two holes and McIlroy made a fine putt on the third for a halve.
After sinking the putt, McIlroy turned to the crowd and screamed: Who cant putt? Who cant putt? I can putt! F*****g come on!
But with his next shot, McIlroy smashed a drive out of bounds, allowing Spieth and Thomas to reduce the deficit.
The Americans then won five of the next nine holes to wrap up an emphatic victory in the final match on Saturday and take the score to 10-6 in the home teams favour.
European captain Thomas Bjorn was delighted with his teams efforts but warned his players against complacency ahead of the singles matches on Sunday.
Its been a good day, and we have to use the positives from that but you think of Brookline and Medinah and plenty of other examples where scorelines dont mean much until tomorrow, he said.
Its a completely different game tomorrow and that takes a lot of refocusing.
Theyve been great at re-focusing between matches and getting back out there to deliver. I really thought that 2-2 this afternoon would be good place for us to be.
We just need to keep going. We need every single man on the course to do their bit and really play hard and be determined to win this back.

When you look at the American names, they have a strong line-up, but we are really happy.
