Dana White confirms UFC 229 pay-per-view numbers as new record after McGregor vs Khabib chaos

UFC president Dana White may not have been happy with the chaos that followed Conor McGregor vs Khabib Nurmagomedov on Saturday, but he is very pleased with the number of people that watched the fight.
The UFC 229 main event, won by Khabib by submission in the fourth round, was marred as the Dagastani jumped the cage and brawled with McGregors team, meanwhile further scuffles began inside the octagon.
Whether the ugly scenes will cost the promotion in the future is yet to be seen, but business on the night was exceptional, with White confirming that more pay-per-views were sold than for any other UFC event.

The pay-per-view numbers are starting to roll in, so Im in a much better mood than I was on Saturday, White told TMZ on Monday.

We didnt do 3 million. But its so hard to crack 2 million. Even (Mike) Tyson-(Evander) Holyfield was at like 1.995 (million). Things like that didnt crack 2 million. Were way over 2 million, so Im happy.

The previous record number of PPV buys was set at 1.65 million at UFC 202, headlined by Conor McGregor vs Nate Diaz II.
That record topped UFC 196, which saw the same two men in the main event, which means McGregor has headlined the three biggest-selling events in UFC history, and four of the top five.

UFC 229 set the record for live gate revenue and attendance in Nevada at $17.2 million and 20,034 respectively.
