Robbie Fowler has backed Liverpool star Mohamed Salah to rediscover his goalscoring boots but believes it is unlikely he will repeat his heroics from last season.

After joining the Reds in the summer of 2017 from Roma, Salah scored over 40 goals for Liverpool in a debut season at Anfield.

Salahs performances helped Liverpool finish in the top four of the Premier League and reach the Champions League final, where they were beaten by Real Madrid.

This season, the Egyptian star has scored three goals in 11 appearances and has netted just once since the start of September.

Fowler is not concerned by this drop-off, however, and says Salah will still score a lot of goals for Liverpool this season.

Im not saying hes having a bad year so far. Hes still a good player, hes still an excellent player but to replicate what he did last year will be unbelievable, Fowler told Sky Sports.

I think hell still score goals, I think hell still score a lot of goals.

What I like about Mo Salah is that his work ethic is brilliant, he doesnt shy away from anything. What I would be more worried about is if he wasnt getting chances.

He will bang the goals in. Im not sure hell hit the heights he did last year but he is still a magnificent player.

He will still be a danger throughout the Premier League [season].

Taking 20 points from their first eight league games this season, Liverpool are joint-top of the Premier League going into the international break.

On the teams form, Fowler added: You cant argue with the points on the board, [with Liverpool being] joint top.

I think at the start of the season youd have taken that all day long.

Theyre unbeaten in the league but there is a long, long way to go and I dont think anyone is getting too carried away but he [Klopp] has certainly got the players fired up and ready for the challenge.
