Manchester United are sweating over the fitness and availability of Marouane Fellaini after the midfielder limped out of a training session ahead of Saturdays clash with Chelsea.

The Belgium international, who was part of Roberto Martinezs latest squad, has once again emerged as a key man for Jose Mourinho, starting four of their last five Premier League games and coming on at half-time in the win over Newcastle.

However, The Sun report that he pulled up at the end of training on Wednesday afternoon and is now a doubt to face Chelsea.

The Red Devils travel to Stamford Bridge for the early kick off, with Mourinho still in desperate need of a positive result despite the dramatic come-from-behind win against Newcastle.

Fellaini had reported back from international duty feeling ill, but insisted on taking part in the afternoon session to get ready for facing Chelsea.

But his afternoon ended prematurely, forced to hobble off the pitch with an ankle problem, and he could be seen shaking his head in dismay – though he did at least manage to get back in the changing room of his own accord.

Fellainis injury will be a huge blow to Mourinho, who has come to regard the 30-year-old as one of his most trusted lieutenants.

It was Mourinho who pushed for Fellaini to be handed a new contract, with the Belgians previous deal having expired in the summer.

If Fellaini misses out, Mourinho could stick with the same midfield trio of Scott McTominay, Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba that started against Newcastle, while Ander Herrera is available again.
