Unai Emery is hopeful Mesut Ozils decision to make himself unavailable for international selection will be of benefit to Arsenal.

The 30-year-old effectively retired from international football following a disastrous World Cup campaign which saw Joachim Lows side knocked out at the group stage for the first time in history.

Ozil was made a scapegoat in Germany after posing for photo with Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, alongside controversial Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Wenger, who brought Ozil to the Emirates Stadium from Real Madrid five yeas ago, fears the 30-year-old may lose motivation now he is no longer representing his country.

I believe that Germany need Ozil, Wenger told SportBild earlier this week.

I hope that Low can convince him to come back. Ozil is a super football player, he was not the worst at the World Cup.

I did not love that he left Germanys national team because a small piece of motivation disappears when you know that you do not have to be ready for a World Cup or a European Championship.

Emery, however, believes the additional time off will help Ozil warm to his own tactical demands having been asked to play in several different roles this season.

He said: International breaks are not easy if you have to play two matches.

When players stop this, maybe it can help them focus more for us, with training and improving things. It could help mesut to find our ideas more quickly.

Ozil missed Arsenals 5-1 win over Fulham prior to the most recent international break with a back spasm but is in contention to make his return against Leicester on Monday night.
