Manchester United are set to fine a group of first-team stars for their refusal to attend a sponsorship event this week.

A group of around five United players failed to show up for a pre-planned sponsorhip commitment on Thursday and cited transport issues as an excuse.

The decision was in protest at Uniteds travel arrangements that have seen them turn up late to their last two Champions League fixtures at Old Trafford.

However, United officials believe they are not to blame for the problems and are set to fine the group of mutineers, according to the Daily Mail.

The likes of Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford attended a separate sponsor event on Thursday night and United want to see the same commitment from the rest of the squad.

Uniteds commercial department has grown at a rapid rate since the Glazer family bought the club in 2005.

Mourinho feels the club are too focused on increasing commercial revenue and fears some of his less glamorous targets, such as Ivan Perisic and Marko Mandzukic, were ruled out as they were not deemed to be big enough stars.
