Chelsea are not currently looking to sign Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic on a permanent deal, according to reports.

Croatia international Kovacic joined Chelsea on a season-long loan in August and has impressed this term under Maurizio Sarri.

The 24-year-old has already featured in 12 matches in all competitions, helping Chelsea impress domestically and in Europe.

Ahead of this weekends Premier League action, Chelsea are third in the top-flight, two points below joint-leaders Manchester City and Liverpool.

Chelsea did not insert a permanent clause in Kovacics loan deal and club chiefs are not currently planning to sign him next summer, according to the Daily Star.

The Blues already have a number of top class midfielders in their ranks, with Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek joining NGolo Kante, Jorginho and Cesc Fabregas as genuine options to manager Sarri.

Barkley, 24, has scored in each of his last three appearances for Chelsea, while Loftus-Cheek bagged a hat-trick in the Europa League last month.

Kovacic, for his part, has been reluctant to comment on his long-term future.

Its too early for these questions. I am here and very happy, he said when asked whether he could leave Real Madrid permanently.

[Playing regularly] is good. Im a little bit tired. I was not used to playing every three or four games and here it is very tough football.

You cant relax against anybody so its a little bit difficult but I really enjoy it. We have a great team, great fans and the city is nice. I like it a lot here.

Kovacic will hope to help Sarris Chelsea maintain their unbeaten Premier League run when Crystal Palace visit Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
