What Cristiano Ronaldo told Wojciech Szczesny before saving Higuain penalty
Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that he gave Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny some last-minute advice before he saved Gonzalo Higuains penalty.
The Argentine, who played alongside Ronaldo at Real Madrid, missed his chance to level the scores from the penalty spot – and later in the game had to be dragged off the pitch by his teammates after being shown a red card.
Szczesny also knows all about Higuain from their time together at Juve, though Ronaldo was still keen to remind him to dive early.
We know each other well. I know that Higuain tends to take his penalties hard and low, so I was fortunate that it went well, Szczesny told Sky Sport Italia.
Ronaldo told me to go early, because Pipita tends to take powerful penalties, but then I already knew that!

There were some suggestions that Higuain should not have taken the penalty, given how well his Juve teammates know him, but the Argentine felt he was right to step up.
Szczesny moved first, thats why he got it, the Argentine said.
I thought it was going into the side-netting, it was a great save. Only those who take penalties can miss them, its easy to say afterwards that it was wrong.
I took the responsibility, I felt good about taking it. I think at the end of the day, weve got to keep our heads up, because we played well against a very strong Juventus side.
