Jose Mourinho has told Manchester Uniteds board to show their ambition by meeting David De Geas wage demands at Old Trafford.
The Spaniard is out of contract at the end of the season, though the Red Devils have the option of triggering a 12-month extension clause before the end of 2018.
The club would rather not activate that as they view it as an acceptance that the Spaniard will not sign a new long-term deal at the club but negotiations have slowed over a new contract.
De Gea pulled off one of his greatest saves ever in a last-gasp 1-0 win against Young Boys at Old Trafford on Tuesday and Mourinho revealed afterwards that the Spaniard wants to stay at the club.

However, the 55-year-old hinted the deal had not been done because the club were still bargaining with De Gea over his wage demands.

I know he wants to stay, Mourinho said.
I know his agent is happy to do what the player wants and I also know that the board wants him to stay and they are working on that. So hopefully, sooner or later, they arrive at a good conclusion.
Without Davids save, there would be no winning goal. Hes the best goalkeeper in the world and if our ambitions are to be a big club, a winning club you need the best goalkeeper in the world.
You also need some other best players [in their position] in the world, in this case we only have the best goalkeeper in the world.
