Jose Mourinho singles Manchester United star out for special praise after dramatic late win

Jose Mourinho was delighted to qualify for the last-16 of the Champions League with a game to spare, and singled out one man in particular for special praise following a dramatic late win over Young Boys Bern.

Marouane Fellaini fired home in stoppage time to book Uniteds spot in the next round – and theyre even in with a shout of topping the group should results go against them in the final round of fixtures.

But while Fellaini was the hero at one end – and drew a bizarre water bottle smashing celebration from his manager – Mourinho was more impressed by David de Geas heroics at the other end.

The Spaniard made one of the saves of the season from a deflected effort midway through the second half to keep the scores level. And Mourinho heaped praise onto the best goalkeeper in the world.

Thats good. Very difficult group, Mourinho told BT Sport. To qualify with one match is obviously good. The performance had lots of good things but also lots of disappointing things.

We lost too many chances in crucial moments of the game. This is the kind of game if you score in the first minutes its a different type of games. You can pay not just with a draw but with a defeat.

Davids save – his only one in the whole game – it is a phenomenal save. A save that the best goalkeeper in the world does and gives his team the opportunity to win the match.

Mourinho wasnt alone in praising De Gea for the magnificent stop.

Rio Ferdinand told BT Sport: David de Gea deserves a special mention. What a save – the claw came out.
