Jurgen Klopp could be handed a matchday ban by UEFA following his criticism of referee Szymon Marciniak after Liverpools defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

Liverpool were beaten 2-1 at the Parc des Princes and must now beat Napoli to stand any chance of reaching the Champions League knockout phase.

Klopp was furious with Marciniak for his performance in Liverpools defeat and claims the Polish official was not prepared to take charge of such a high-profile fixture.

We got the penalty, actually, the ref didnt want to give it, I have no clue how thats possible, Klopp told Viasport.

There was a clear red card exactly in front of me from [Marco] Verratti.

We won three times in a row the Fair Play table in England, today we looked like butchers.

We had six, seven, eight yelow cards and were close to a red card.

Yes, there were one or two holdings which are yellow cards but the other situations were… its unbelievable

The ref needs to be prepared for a game like this, and he looked not prepared, thats being 100 per cent honest.

UEFA banned Pep Guardiola from being on the touchline for Citys clash with Lyon in September after he confronted the referee in his sides Champions League quarter-final defeat to Liverpool last season.

Gianluigi Buffon, meanwhile, was banned for three matches by UEFA for his scathing criticism of referee Michael Oliver after Juventus Champions League exit at the hands of Real Madrid in April.
