Maurizio Sarri insists Alvaro Morata is still part of his plans at Chelsea despite leaving him out of the squad for the Manchester City victory.

The Blues ended Citys unbeaten Premier League run on Saturday as goals from NGolo Kante and David Luiz secured a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge.

Morata failed to make Chelseas bench over the weekend as Sarri opted to play Eden Hazard as a false number nine.

Former Real Madrid striker Morata has struggled to adapt to the demands of the Premier League over the past 16 months but Sarri says he will understand the decision to be omitted.

The Chelsea boss said: But I think its normal choice for this kind of match. I dont know if in Brighton we will play in the same way or not, maybe not.

I dont know but I think that Alvaro is able to understand that it is only tactical decision, not the final choice.

We thought yesterday that for the first time in the season there was the possibility to have more spaces, and so we wanted to try with Eden because for the first time there was the possibility to play in counter-attacks.

Hazard, Pedro and Willian are really very suitable for this kind of playing, so I think its a normal choice.

I think that its really a very good option and maybe we will try it again in the future, especially for some matches.

Morata has scored 22 goals in 68 appearances for Chelsea since leaving Real Madrid but his confidence has looked shot this season.

David Luiz, however, expects Morata to bounce back soon and show his quality for the west London club.

Hes an amazing player and person, and for sure he will bounce back and he be in that team, Brazilian defender Luiz said.

He is part of this family, sometimes you are in the group, sometimes not but hes an amazing professional and he has many, many qualities to score many goals for Chelsea.
