Manchester United are desperate to beat Manchester City to the signing of Lyon midfielder Tanguy NDombele, according to reports in France.

City submitted a €50 million (£45m) offer for the 21-year-old in the summer transfer window but the bid was rejected by Lyon.

NDombele has attracted interest from several clubs across Europe, while he impressed against City in the Champions League group stage this season.

And according to France Football, United are determined to win the race to sign NDombele, who is reportedly valued at around £70m.

When asked about his future over the weekend, the France international admitted he would be open to the prospect of joining either United or City.

I could have gone [in the summer], maybe things would have worked out well, the midfielder told Canal Football Club.

The club was firm, they didnt want me to leave. I didnt feel like leaving, and I think that today you can see that it was the best decision for me.

Things are going well, I am playing a lot of games, and I am in the French national team. So, I think for the moment it was the best decision.

I dont imagine how my career will go, I live it instead.

When I was young I didnt dream of being in this or that club, whether it is Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, I have never dreamed of being in a specific club like that.

Of course they are big clubs, I dont close the door to anyone.
