Defending champion Rob Cross playing at 20% going into PDC World Darts Championship
Rob Cross begins the defence of his PDC World Darts Championship on Thursday night, but he admits that his game is not where he would like it to be.
Voltage stunned the darting world 12 months ago when he won the world title on debut, beating world number one Michael van Gerwen in the semis, before battering 16-time champ Phil Taylor in the final.
However, despite climbing to number two in the world, Cross has not kept up the sublime form he showed last time he came to Alexandra Palace.
The 28-year-old has picked up just two minor titles since his world title triumph and he admits that he is not playing anywhere near his best.
At the minute Im playing at 20%, said Cross.

Its the overall consistency, its that leg-on-leg pressure. Phil [Taylor] was great against the best in the world because he was leg-on-leg.
It didnt matter what you were averaging, as long as he was putting pressure on.
Cross only gained a PDC tour card at the start of the 2017 season but admits that he already has very high demands of himself.
My expectations have changed. I want more, and I want it now.
To be honest, if I look at it now, 20 months in, have I ever been at my best in the PDC yet? No. Not yet. There is still a lot more there.
Its time. Michael took time. Look at Phil, he didnt regain his world title the second year.
Whether it is this year or further into his future, the world champion has no doubt that he will be picking up the giant Sid Waddell trophy again.
The former electrician said: When I picked it up on New Years Day, I thought, “This is not the last time I will lift this.”
I wont put a number on how many Ill win, but I believe I will lift that again.
Cross opens up his defence of his world title against either Jeffrey de Zwaan or Indian qualifier Nitin Kumar on Thursday evening.
