Sir Alex Ferguson gives advice to Manchester United board over Jose Mourinhos replacement
Manchester Uniteds hierarchy have been asking Sir Alex Ferguson for his input as the club seek a new long-term manager after sacking Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho was dismissed by executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward during a short meeting at the clubs training ground on Tuesday morning.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been appointed as Uniteds interim manager for the remainder of the season, while Mike Phelan will also return to the club as an assistant to the Norwegian.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is Uniteds preferred choice as Mourinhos long-term successor, although no move will be made before the end of the season.
And according to The Independent, Ferguson is being actively consulted by United chiefs as the club continue to weigh up their options.
Ferguson, who attended Uniteds 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, is understood to be a huge admirer of Pochettino, while the pair have met for lunch in the past.

Pochettino, meanwhile, is claimed to be keen on replacing Mourinho at United and wants to be considered for the job at the end of the season.

Tottenham, however, are in a strong position as the Argentine signed a five-year contract extension in May which keeps him tied to the club until 2023.
It will cost United around £34 million to land Pochettino from Spurs next summer, while they also face strong competition from Real Madrid.
