Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sends message to amazing Manchester United squad in first interview

Manchester United caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hailed the amazing strength of the squad at Old Trafford and says every player will have a chance to prove themselves under him.

The Norwegian was confirmed as Jose Mourinhos replacement for the remainder of the season on Wednesday and took first team training at the clubs Carrington complex today.

United sacked Mourinho on Tuesday after the club dropped 19 points behind arch rivals Liverpool following a 3-1 defeat at Anfield on the weekend but as troubling was the toxic relationship that had developed between the squad and the Portuguese boss.

Ed Woodward indicated Solskjaers appointment was to unite supporters and the players and Solskjaer says his appointment is a clean slate for the squad.

Yes, you certainly get to see the players in a game and a pressure situation, but I think just the amount of games coming up is no problem because youve got this squad – an amazing squad of players – weve got 23-24 players said Solskjaer.

Though United fans largely stuck by Mourinho, the 55-year-olds negativity started to grate on supporters.

David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Mourinho had all been considered reactionary managers by supporters but Solskjaer says his main focus will be on what United can do to other teams, rather than vice versa.

I watch the Premier League, Ive seen all of the teams so Ive got a little bit of a view on them but its not about the opposition, said Solskjaer.

Its about us, its about Manchester United. Its about our players knowing what they can do. We want to see them express themselves, so my main focus of course will be on us and how we want the team to play and then well give them one or two details about the opposition.
