Jose Mourinho told Paul Pogba to play like Frank Lampard before his Manchester United exit
Jose Mourinho suggested to Paul Pogba that he should play like Frank Lampard before he was sacked by Manchester United, according to reports.
Pogba and Mourinho fell out on several occasions during their time together at Old Trafford and in his final game in charge for the 3-1 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday, the 25-year-old was left on the bench as an unused substitute.
Mourinho explored various strategies to try to get the best out of Pogba but after giving him the vice-captaincy at the start of the season, that duty was rescinded by the end of September as the Portuguese was unhappy with the midfielders attitude.
Mourinho was also furious with Pogbas decision to publicly criticise Uniteds tactics this season, especially during home matches.
But according to The Sun, in a meeting between the pair, Pogba was told by Mourinho that he should take a lot of inspiration from Lampards peak years at Chelsea.
However, the report claims that Pogba reacted angrily to Mourinhos suggestion and asked if Lampard had ever won a World Cup like he did with France earlier this summer.

Mourinho is said to have been dismayed by Pogbas reaction and came to a realisation that he would never be able to get the best out of the midfielder.

Following Mourinhos sacking, reports this week claimed that Pogba was jubilant after hearing the news at the clubs training ground and was ordered to curb his celebrations by Michael Carrick.
Pogba is among the many United players who have not posted a tribute message to Mourinho following his exit.
