Jurgen Klopp gives surprise injury update on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Jurgen Klopp expects Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to play Premier League football again this season after admitting his recovery from injury is ahead of schedule.

Oxlade-Chamberlain suffered a serious knee injury in Liverpools Champions League win over Roma in April, which subsequently meant he would miss the World Cup.

After months of painstaking recovery, the Liverpool boss revealed Oxlade-Chamberlains back running while also stating he could be back in full-time training by February.

Its the best news, Klopp said. He started going out on the pitch and from the first step looked completely normal.

With Ox, from the first step, it looked like Ox. It was really nice and there was no reaction.

No pressure on him. It looks like February being back in normal training. Late February, maybe March. It gives us hope he will be back in this season.

While expressing his happiness at Oxlade-Chamberlains return, Klopp also revealed he didnt expect it to be so soon.

Its a surprise [his rehab]. It looks really good, Klopp added. Of course it needs time and each little muscle must now adapt to the intensity.

If you look at the sessions he does outside he looks like he can play tomorrow but of course it is not possible. Its a boost for the entire dressing room because he is such a big part of that.

Its a surprise. Hes ahead of schedule. Thats always good news. We try not to push him too much but we dont want to hold him back.

If he makes further steps like he did in the last few weeks he can play Premier League football this season which is nice to know.
