Man City, Liverpool or Spurs? Souness and Carragher disagree on who will win Premier League
Manchester City closed the gap behind Liverpool to just four points on Thursday night as Pep Guardiolas men recorded a 2-1 win courtesy of goals from Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane.
The Premier League champions are having to work hard to defend their title, with Jurgen Klopps side mounting a serious challenge, while Tottenham Hotspur remain in the mix at this stage.
Former Liverpool ace Graeme Souness believes Liverpool are the team with momentum despite the loss and should be viewed as the favourites to lift a first Premier League title.
I think Liverpool are in a great place, he told Sky Sports. Its the first week of January and its the first time theyve lost. Thats the first time theyve tasted losing in the Premier League.
I know which team I would rather be playing for in the second half of the season, I think the momentum is very much with Liverpool.

I think City have come unstuck three in six games – theres still questions there although a lot of them have been answered tonight.
However, fellow Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher disagrees and rates City as the favourites.
He added: Looking at it now – four points… I think weve probably said since the start of the season that City are the best team in this league. I think its maybe 50/50, maybe slightly in Citys favour, they will fancy their chances.
I think what we havent had for a couple of years is a real title race. The last few years, Chelsea under [Antonio] Conte ran away with it and City last season… finally it feels like we may have one this season.
Carragher did open the door to Liverpool, though, should they focus purely on the Premier League while City continue to fight on four fronts.
He continued: I just think with City its more than the league. If Pep Guardiola comes here with City for four or five years, he will be judged in the Champions League. Thats the big thing for City to do to take them to the next level, to become one of those super clubs with one of those on the CV.
A big part of this season will be who goes further in the Champions League. City are still in the Carabao Cup also – weve still got the FA Cup – if Liverpool could just concentrate on the league, that might be the advantage they need.
One team Manchester United hero Gary Neville doesnt believe will be in the running is Tottenham Hotspur.

Asked if its a three-horse race, he said: No, I dont think so.
Thats not being disrespectful to Tottenham. I dont think theyve got the depth and the quality of these two squads and these two teams.
Theyre a fantastic team and I love watching them play but theyre not on the same level as these two weve seen tonight.
