Darren Gough slams disgraceful decision to hand Aussie cheat Cameron Bancroft Durham captaincy
Darren Gough has branded Durhams decision to hand Cameron Bancroft the captaincy ahead of the new domestic season as disgraceful.
Bancroft, along with Steve Smith and David Warner, were all banned following their involvement in the ball tampering row which brought shame on Australian cricket during the infamous tour of South Africa exactly 12 months ago.
The trio have recently begun the process of rebuilding their careers with Bancroft, the youngest and least experienced offender, having represented the Perth Scorchers during the Big Bash League.
Marcus North, the former Australia Test all-rounder, has recently been appointed the director of cricket at Durham and taken the controversial step of appointing Bancroft as captain of the county, much to England legend Goughs disgust.

He told talkSPORT: I thought their bans were too harsh but its not like theyre [Durham] getting Steve Smith.
Bancroft has had no real leadership roles. He captained Australia Under-19s in 2011 in two matches. Thats it.
Hes not been captain of Perth or Western Australia. Suddenly Marcus North is the director of cricket at Durham. Hes brought in a Kiwi to stand by him in James Franklin who has no coaching experience.

Now hes brought in a Western Australian player to help their development because he still has a lot to do with them.
He then gives him the captaincy which I find an absolutely disgraceful decision.
If he was a guy whod captained Australia before or someone who everyone said was a brilliant leader [then fine], but you only have to look at some of his interviews and how he talked about that [ball tampering] situation.
That doesnt show great leadership. Just putting some sandpaper in your pocket and trying to scratch the ball? Thats not leadership skills.
