Historic World Cup triumph can boost Englands Ashes prospects, says Joe Root
Joe Root insists lifting the World Cup on home soil will boost Englands prospects for the subsequent Ashes series.
Eoin Morgans side will attempt to win the World Cup for the first time this summer before the Test team bid to reclaim the urn from touring Australia.
England were thumped 4-0 by the Baggy Greens during the last Ashes series and Root says his charge must be absolutely ready for a battle in August.
[Hosting the World Cup] is obviously very exciting. At this time of the season, after having a bit of time off, very quickly your mind starts switching to whats to come, the England Test captain said.
Hopefully well be on a flier after a brilliant World Cup. Ultimately when those Test matches come round, we know were going to have to be absolutely ready for them.

On captaining England in a home Ashes series, Root added: It will be very special. The hairs stand up on your arms just thinking about it.
But theres so much cricket to be played between now and then, that it would be wrong to look too far ahead to those opening days and all of those little intricacies that come with an Ashes series.
Most importantly, youve got to get some runs early season – give yourself a load of confidence going into what is going to be an amazing summer.
England drew 2-2 against West Indies in the Caribbean earlier in the year and Root says the ODI series was a nice little reminder that the team cannot become complacent ahead of the World Cup.
[The West Indies tour] was obviously an opportunity to put together a string of good performances coming into a World Cup, Root added.
I think its really important that we take on board what happened, and we come into this summer full of confidence.
