Juventus provide Cristiano Ronaldo update after injury in Portugals draw with Serbia

Juventus are hopeful that Cristiano Ronaldo will be available for their Champions League quarter-final against Ajax after the forward came off injured in Portugals 1-1 draw with Serbia.

Danilo Pereiras first-half wonder strike rescued a point for Portugal on a disappointing night for the European holders and Ronaldos injury compounded their disappointment.

The 34-year-old superstar went down in a heap in the 31st minute before limping off the pitch and Benficas Pizzi came on to replace him for the remainder of the Euro 2020 qualifying match.

Ronaldo was confident he would return to face Ajax when speaking after the final whistle and Juventus downplayed the severity of the injury ahead of a crucial run of fixtures for the club.

The Serie A giants have league matches against Empoli, Cagliari and AC Milan after the international break and then travel to Ajax on April 10 for the first leg of sides quarter-final clash.

After being forced off in the 30th minute of the first half of the match between Portugal and Serbia, during qualifying for the Euro 2020, Cristiano Ronaldo underwent tests in Portugal that revealed a minor injury to his right thigh flexors, an official statement from Juventus said on Tuesday.

He will be monitored and subjected to further tests to establish when he can return to competitive action.

Ronaldo allayed fears that he could miss Juventus clash with Ajax immediately following Portugals draw.

My injury? Im not worried, the former Manchester United attacker told reporters.

I know my body and in two weeks time Ill be ready to play again.

Ronaldo believes Portugal have been unlucky after successive draws with Ukraine and Serbia, leaving them third in Group B.

I sincerely think we played well in the two games, he continued.
