Alan Shearer picks top three stadiums he played in for atmosphere and St James Park misses out
Alan Shearer has picked out the three stadiums he played in that produced the best atmosphere, and surprisingly left out his beloved St James Park.
The Premier League record goal-scorer played for Newcastle from 1996-06, scoring 206 goals for his hometown club.
However, the home of the Magpies didnt make Shearers top three in terms of atmosphere, neither did the homes of Southampton or Blackburn – the other teams he played for professionally.
The best atmosphere I ever played in was in an England shirt was at Wembley during Euro 96 in that Holland game, it was electric, Shearer told Coral.
I always felt Anfield was an incredible stadium because of the passion and the knowledge the Liverpool fans have.
And Marseille when we played there with Newcastle on a European night, the atmosphere was fantastic.

Probably those three stadiums, they were brilliant.
Shearer did reserve special praise for St James Park, though, as he recalled his debut for Newcastle, and going to watch Kevin Keegans first appearance at the famous ground.
