Gary Wilson reacts to winning the longest frame in Snooker World Championship history

Gary Wilson and Luca Brecel played out the longest frame in the history of the Snooker World Championship on Monday night, with Wilson eventually getting over the line to win the match 10-9.

The final and deciding frame lasted a whopping 79 minutes and 31 seconds, breaking the record previously set by Mark Selby and Marco Fu in 2016 by over three minutes.

It was a remarkable display of concentration from the two men, especially Wilson, who produced some exceptional escapes from snookers along the way.

It was the Belgian who finally blinked first and handed the Englishman the chance he needed to claim the match, but Wilson admitted he was embarrassed with the length of the contest.

It wasnt snooker, said Wilson. I am not sure what it was but it was me getting over the line and thats the main thing.

It dragged on but I wasnt going to give up on any shot. Some of the fans were thinking what have I come to this for? I was half-embarrassed but I had to block that out.

Some people had to rush off to the toilet because they had waited so long. They were probably thinking: Why have I come to this session?”

A nerveless double on the final red, developing the brown in the process, proved to be the match-winning decision for the Geordie, who was left disappointed with his overall performance, despite the battling win.

I got a sniff of a chance at the end there and thankfully it went my way.

There was a hesitation because youre thinking 50-50 I could win or lose here and all that hard work is for nothing.

You know deep down in your gut what the right shot is and when to play it, once I landed on it I thought “its got to be played” and I kind of fancied it.
