Goa port minister to write to Mamata for allowing hotel industry migrants in Bengal

PANAJI: Making a case for the several migrants from West Bengal stranded in the state, ports minister Michael Lobo on Monday said that there was urgent need to arrange two trains to send them home. “I am sending an email to West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee,” he said.
Lobo said that a large number of people from West Bengal and Odisha work in hotels along the coastal belt. “Nearly 3,500 people, including 1,500 who are working in the hotel industry, have registered with us,” he said.
Referring to the huge protest by migrant labourers, including those from Odisha and West Bengal, outside the office of the North Goa collectorate, Lobo said this would not happen if their return journey was ensured. “Then they will not visit the collectorate and MLAs office requesting that arrangements be made for them to go back,” he said.
“On Monday morning, 1,500 migrant labourers from West Bengal and Odisha came to my office seeking train tickets to return home,” Lobo said. “Since there are no free trains, the hotel industry is ready to pay for their return to their native place. Since they dont have money, we will pay for their ticket.”
