Ander Herrera is prepared to turn down offers to leave Manchester United this summer despite Jose Mourinho signing Brazil star Fred.

United agreed a £52million move to land Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk last week and followed the deal up with a move for teenage full-back Diogo Dalot.

Fred, who suffered an ankle injury the day after his move to United was agreed, will provide competition for the likes of Herrera at Old Trafford.

Spanish midfielder Herrera has developed into a dependable player for the Red Devils and has Jose Mourinhos confidence.

But he has just one year remaining on his current contract and is a target for a number of European clubs.

Spanish sides Athletic Bilbao and Atletico Madrid have expressed interest in signing Herrera but the Daily Mail say he is determined to stay put and make an impact for United next season.

Fred spent five seasons at Shakhtar before agreeing a move to the Theatre of Dreams. He was also strongly linked with Manchester rivals City.

His World Cup hopes were under threat when he suffered a worrying ankle injury just a week before the tournament starts in Russia.

But his Brazil teammate Marcelo has eased concerns that he will miss a large part of the World Cup by saying it is not that serious.
