Manchester United have emailed their club ambassadors reminding them of their responsibilities and to be careful when speaking about the plight of under-fire manager Jose Mourinho.

Having presided over a calamitous start to the new season – United are already six points the early pacesetters having lost two of their three games so far – Mourinho is said to be clinging to his position with some players reported to be openly talking about the possibility of Zinedine Zidane succeeding him.

Mourinho is said to maintain the backing of executive vice-chairman given the positive first half performance during Mondays 3-0 defeat at home against Tottenham, a result which sparked fresh speculation surrounding the 55-year-olds future.

United employ the likes of Dwight Yorke, Andy Cole, Bryan Robson, Denis Irwin and Ji-sung Park in an ambassadorial capacity and all have been reminded of their obligations.

Yorke was particularly scathing of Mourinhos methods, recently claiming his brand of football was not in keeping with the clubs best traditions.

Asked back in May whether he felt Guardiola would have won the title if he was managing the United squad last season, he said: I think they would definitely win the league because they are on the front foot, playing attacking football.

Any manager who has got the riches of players they have playing on the front foot will win more games than they lose. Its not rocket science.

Look at the other side and the blue half of Manchester. Dont tell me those players are far superior than the players we have.

You look at Anthony Martial, (Marcus) Rashford, (Jesse) Lingard, you look at (Alexis) Sanchez, (Romelu) Lukaku. We have got a very, very strong attacking line-up.

The likes of Paul Scholes and Paul Ince have been openly critical of Mourinho, but the Special One is, according to the Daily Mail, said to have been particularly angered by Yorkes withering assessment given he is employed by the club.
