Roger Federer has backed Andy Murray to rediscover his top form in 2019 after recovering from injury.

Former British number one Murray secured three Grand Slams between 2012 and 2016, winning Wimbledon twice and the US Open.

Having missed the first three Majors of this year due to injury, Murray was knocked out of the US Open in the second round, before ending his season early.

Murray says he is feeling a little bit better every day after returning to the practice courts and Federer is confident we will see a revitalised player next year.

I feel you can very quickly play top-30 level, Federer said when asked about Murrays return.

That level he found quickly and very easily, he wasnt 100% so that makes me feel good about his chances.

The problem is that he has been No. 1, has won double Olympic gold, its not enough to play last-16 or quarters.

He wants to make top-10 and then top-5, obviously. Will he be able to play week in week out or will he have to play less tournaments like I do but still be successful?

Its going to be interesting to see how he comes back but Im confident its not going to be a problem if he returns at 100%.

Speaking ahead of the season-ending ATP Finals in London, Novak Djokovic also discussed Murrays injury problems.

I dont know in detail how severe his injury is and what hes going through. I know just bits and pieces, the US Open and Wimbledon champion said.

But hes a great guy. I like Andy a lot. I have tonnes of respect for him. I sincerely wish him a speedy recovery.

I understand that probably one of the biggest struggles hes going through – and one Ive experienced with the elbow – is who to trust.

I can only imagine what hes going through but for me that was the most difficult thing to deal with – which protocol and expert to follow.

After that obviously you create a long-term plan and stick with it.

The Scot is due to train in America next month before playing in the Brisbane International at the start of 2019.

Speaking this week, he said: Im getting close.

I am going to get to Miami for three or four weeks to train in the hot conditions and spend a lot more time on the court to get ready for the tournament in Brisbane.

Im planning to get to Brisbane pretty early, probably a week before the start of the tournament.

Ive been practising already for a few days and Ive still got a couple of months to get myself in the best shape for the start of the tournament.
