Ole Gunnar Solskjaer warns Manchester United squad to meet his standards or receive hairdryer treatment

Manchester United caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has warned his squad he will lay down the law if they fail to meet his standards at Old Trafford.

The 45-year-old will take charge of United for the first time on Saturday when they come up against his former side Cardiff City in Wales.

Solskjaer was identified as a successor to Jose Mourinho because Uniteds board felt his demeanour would help unite the squad after it fractured during Mourinhos third campaign in the north-west.

However, the Norwegian has admitted he has a tougher side and wont be afraid to emulate former boss Sir Alex Ferguson by using the hairdryer treatment.

I am also not afraid of, if you like, laying down the law, said Solskjaer.

You know with your kids, if they disappoint you, you tell them off. You dont give them some chocolate. So you treat players similar to how you treat your kids, really, because you want the best for them, you want to guide them and help them. If I am disappointed – ask Elijah or Karna or Noah (his three children) or one of the players I had in Molde (the Norwegian club he manages).

Once in a while you really have to tell them the standards we have got. Weve spoken about what we expect, what standards we have on and off the pitch.

I trust the lads to know what theyre doing, to help the team. Everything we do is to help the team. The world has changed now. Im not into this social media. My kids are, yeah. Im that old that Im not on Twitter or Facebook but thats just common sense for me, what Ive spoken to them about. We move this forward.
