Anti-CAA stir about constitutional values, BJP arrogant in power: Congress

NEW DELHI: Congress on Monday accused the BJP leadership of provoking firing incidents in the capital to polarise the electorate to win the assembly elections, asserting that anti-CAA-NRC protests were about constitutional values while BJPs actions were about arrogance of power.
Gaurav Gogoi, Congresss lead speaker in the debate on the motion of thanks to the Presidents address, demanded that Union minister Anurag Thakur, who was briefly barred by the EC from campaigning in the Delhi polls for his rally cry “desh ke gaddaron ko…”, be booked under relevant laws and banned from contesting elections.
He said young boys had suddenly surfaced in Delhi, firing at protesters and students. “Who is pulling the trigger? Is it the boy who held the gun? I dont think so. The persons who pulled the trigger are the ministers provoking that boy,” he added.
Gogoi alleged that provocative ministers and Delhi Police, which had failed to curb violence in the election campaign, were under directions from the BJP leadership. He said police could not prevent the firing incidents but had earlier entered university campuses and beat up students and professors. He said the culprits behind the violence in JNU had not yet been arrested.
“You may threaten us or shoot us, but people will not be afraid,” he said, referring to BJP.
