British WWE star Paige may be forced to retire due to injury
Norwich-born Paige has been one of WWE’s most popular female wrestlers of all time, but reports suggest that she may be forced to retire from wrestling due to injury.
The 25-year-old Brit recently returned to the ring after a 512 day lay-off, and seemed to be returning to the top of the women’s division.
However, on December 27th in New York, Paige was kicked in the back by Sasha Banks during a six-women’s match.
The match was stopped soon after the kick, and Paige was able to walk to the back, but it appears the injury may be a potential career ender.
PWInsider reported today that Paige ‘was informed this week that she will not be cleared to return to the ring’ following the injury, with her affliction believed to be similar to the one which forced Edge to retire from WWE in 2011.
Much emphasis had been placed upon her return, especially after Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson announced his production company was making a film based on Paige’s route to WWE success.
Fighting With My Family is inspired by Channel 4’s 2012 documentary on Paige and her family, whichThe Rock stumbled across the documentary while filming Fast & Furious 6 in London.
The Office co-creator Stephen Merchant wrote and directed the film, which stars Lena Headey, Nick Frost, Florence Pugh and Vince Vaughn.
