Alex Noren was overcome with emotion after leading Europe to an unprecedented Ryder Cup foursomes clean sweep against America.

Trailing 3-1 after the morning four balls, Thomas Bjorns side swung the momentum back in their favour with series of stellar performances in the afternoon session.

Debutant Noren, paired with Ryder Cup veteran Sergio Garcia, took no mercy on Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau, winning convincingly 5&4.

Unbelievable. Im so happy – just to get it out of the way, said the Swede afterwards, before breaking down in tears. Get a good point and playing with Sergio was fantastic. It means a lot just to be on the team and to make a point. Great.

Garcia justified his selection as one of captain Thomas Bjorns wildcard picks, despite a disappointing season on the PGA Tour, providing Noren with a guiding hand.

It was important, said the Spaniard. I got so lucky that I get paired with amazing partners. On the front nine we played some amazing golf, we had a couple of issues on the back nine but
Alex was a rock. I helped him here and there and it was great to get a point.

After reganing his composure, Noren added: Its amazing we all want to get here once we are here it is a different story to other tournaments.

The crowd is amazing you want to perform, you want to dig deep and play. You have to forget about practice when you get out there its different.
