Liverpool loanee Harry Wilson reveals the text Jurgen Klopp sent him after wondergoal v Manchester United
With United leading last months cup fixture at Old Trafford 1-0, Wales international Wilson smashed home a 30-yard free-kick to equalise for Derby.
The Championship outfit took the lead with five minutes remaining, only for Marouane Fellainis injury-time goal to send the tie to penalties.
But it was Derby who triumphed 8-7 in the shootout as Frank Lampard secured the most famous victory of his fledgling managerial career.
Reflecting on his stunning goal, Wilson revealed he received a message from Klopp after the match.
Speaking ahead of Wales UEFA National League clash with Spain on Thursday, he said: I have been practising a bit and if I can hit one half as good as the other night [against United] I will be happy.
I think the Liverpool fans enjoyed it… Jurgen Klopp messaged me after the United game.
He said: “Fantastic free-kick, really great football”. Its great to hear from the manager whose team you want to be in in the future.
Wilson, 21, spent a decade in Liverpools academy before making his first-team debut in January 2017.
Following loan spells at Crewe Alexander and Hull City, he signed a new five-year contract at Liverpool, before joining Derby for the duration of the 2018-19 campaign.
And Wilson revealed how former Chelsea and England midfielder Lampard contacted him prior to the move to outline his philosophy.
[Frank] has been, the Welsh star added. I spoke to him on the phone before I went there.
He told me about how he wanted his team to play made me realise it was the right club for me.
Since Ive been there Ive learned a lot. The way weve played in the last month or so has shown how weve progressed as a team.
I feel fit and strong and am really enjoying my football at the minute.
