Those clad in saffron raping in temples, says Digvijaya at conference of sadhus
BHOPAL: Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Tuesday raked up a fresh controversy while addressing a convention of sadhus and sants here. He alleged that persons wearing saffron robes are involved in rapes and that rapes are occurring in temples. The function Sant Samagam was organized by the Madhya Pradesh Spiritual Department and chief minister Kamal Nath was present on the dais when Digvijaya Singh spoke before the gathering.
“Aaj Bhagwa vastra pahankar log churan bech rahe hain. Bhagwa vastra pahankar baladkar ho rahe hain. Mandiron mein baladkar ho rahe hain. Kya yehi hamara dharm hai? Hamara sanatan dharm ko jinn logon neh badnaam kiya hai, unko Ishwar bhi maaf nehi karega (Today, wearing saffron attire, people are selling churan. Wearing saffron, there are rapes happening. Rapes are taking place in temples. Is this our religion? God will not forgive those who have tainted our sanatan dharm),” Digvijaya Singh said.
The former chief minister also said that temples and mutts (monasteries) should not be made into centres of political activity. “Presently, in this country there is an initiative to capture temples and monasteries,” Digvijaya Singh said. “To transform places of worship into political pivots. This needs to be stopped,” he said.
