Displaying raw courage, jawan killed intercepting terrorist who tried to flee

JAMMU: Naik Rajindra Singh died exhibiting exemplary courage when he intercepted a terrorist trying to flee the Batote encounter site in Jammu and Kashmirs Ramban district on Saturday.
“Today at about 0715 hours (7.15 am) at Km 7 of NH 244, a road opening party (ROP) of the Indian Army, on receipt of specific input, intercepted a group of three terrorists. On being challenged, the terrorists opened fire and ran towards Batote town,” the defence spokesperson in Jammu, Lt Col Devender Anand, said.
The terrorists then entered a house in Batote town and took a man hostage inside. “In order to secure the safe release of the hostage, the security forces exercised the utmost restraint and even asked the terrorists to surrender. However, the terrorists continued to fire from inside the house,” Lt Col Anand said.
