New Single “I’M NOT HERE” From Album “GLORIA” On Radio Kiss Kiss

On the heels of a stunning appearance on SNL (Saturday Night Live), Sam Smith’s fourth studio album Gloria is out today. To celebrate the highly anticipated release comes the new single and video (premiere from Friday 27 January at 19:00) of the song produced by Calvin Harris “I’m Not Here To Make Friends”.
Directed by Tanu Muino (Lil Nas X, Harry Styles, Normani), the video of “I’m Not Here To Make Friends” sees a very powerful entrance of Sam with great scenographic impact (costumes made by Tomo Koizumi) where he descends from a golden helicopter to enter the heart of a hedonistic and exhilarating party, becoming the protagonist while all the other guests participate in this rite, in a country house full of excitement at every corner. An allegory of non-homologated individuality, where the images convey pure freedom, joy, desire, an introduction to the general theme of the album to come.
Gloria is Not Only a Creative Revelation
Gloria is not only a creative revelation, but also a personal one. It is the sound of restraining chains joyfully opening to break down boundaries, of a talent always on the lookout, discovering what it means to be truly free – in touch with one’s deepest self. A creative challenge for Sam who has decided to make the opposite of a poignant album; he wanted to build the armor he wished he grew up ™, the record he wished he had to accompany his formative years. Gloria leans on some famous female figures from Sam’s musical world (Jessie Reyez, Kim Petras, Koffee), as well as exploring the themes of sex, passion, self-expression and imperfection.
The album title refers not to a person, past or present, but to that bristling and enigmatic life force that Smith has christened Gloria. Discussing the album Sam explains: “Gloria is also a celebration of all genres and all the female divas, pop vocalists and songwriters that I love. I collected all these memories and put them in one album. And I wanted to be provocativeÉ™. My diva album? I think yes! I think I finally got my Glory out.” Longtime collaborators Jimmy Napes, Stargate and Max Martin’s stablemate ILYA helped craft the 13 tracks that weave between shimmering electro pop, glorious melodic reverie, Jamaican dancehall freak-pop, piano ballads and a hymn in chorus.
Gloria includes, in addition to “Gimme” the latest released song with Colombian-Canadian R&B singer-songwriter Jessie Reyez and Jamaican reggae star Koffee, the poignant “Who We Love” with Ed Sheeran, the euphoric dance hall number “Lose You”, the beautiful lullaby “Gloria” and the worldwide hit with Kim Petras “Unholy”.
“Unholy” is Sam’s eighth No. 1 hit, with just under 2 billion streams worldwide. For the first time Sam reaches number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making history, together with collaborator Kim Petras, as the first non-binary É™ artistÉ™ and transgender to achieve the result. It was nominated for a GRAMMY and remained No. 1 on the global Spotify and Apple Music charts for over 4 weeks after its release. Sam is among only three other global artists to debut at #1 on the Official UK Chart in 2022, and then stay there for 4 weeks.
Golden Globe And Academy
Multi-platinum GRAMMY®, BRIT, Golden Globe and Academy Award winning artistÉ™ and songwriterÉ™ Sam Smith is one of the most celebrated musical artists to emerge in recent history and boasts a long track record. Gloria is Sam’s fourth studio album and comes after Love Goes, the critically acclaimed album in 2020. Sam Smith has assets of 38 million album sales, 283 million single sales and 51 billion career streams . The multi-platinum debut album In the Lonely Hour became the best-selling debut album of the decade. He has collaborated with artists such as: Calvin Harris on the international hit “Promises”, Normani on the beloved R&B hit “Dancing With A Stranger” and African superstar Burna Boy on “My Oasis”. Sam Smith holds two Guinness World Records: for the most consecutive weeks in the Top 10 of the UK Album Chart with debut album In The Lonely Hour (2014) and for taking the first James Bond theme to the no. 1 in the UK Charts (“Writing’s on the Wall”, Oscar and Golden Globe winner).
From 12 April the world tour will start from the United Kingdom with two evenings at the O2 Arena in London, which will cross Europe. Sam will bring the new album worldwide, in North America, Australia and New Zealand.
Gloria is the most confident and creatively crafted version of Sam to date. The courageous spirit pervades throughout the album, in equal measure expressive and exuberant. The juxtaposition of religion and sexual liberation in Gloria is like a second maturation as Sam enters into the truth of him.
